Megan Vries
Clinical Psychologist
Providing individual psychotherapy for adults, with a focus on emotional wellbeing, relational patterns, and life transitions.
Welcome
My name is Megan Vries, and I am a clinical psychologist based in Craighall Park, offering therapy to adults I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, and I hope this website helps guide you in making an informed decision about beginning this important journey.
I work with adults seeking deeper understanding, emotional clarity, and greater balance in their lives. Many people choose therapy when they feel overwhelmed by anxiety, persistent low mood, patterns in relationships, life transitions, or the sense that something feels “off” even when life looks okay on the outside.
Therapy is a personal process. It is a space where we explore underlying patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating, and begin to build new ways of understanding yourself and engaging with challenges. I work collaboratively with clients to create an environment that is empathic, non-judgemental, and grounded in trust.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and adhere to strict ethical and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Wits)
Honours in Psychology (Wits)
Masters in Clinical Psychology (Wits)
Therapeutic Approach
I aim to gain a deeper understanding of the individual. I believe that patterns of relating to yourself and others are rooted in early experiences. In therapy, we explore the emotions, thoughts and beliefs that shape behaviour and the way in which you relate to yourself and others. I endeavour to create a strong therapeutic alliance by creating an environment that is empathic and non-judgemental. My approach is rooted in psychological theory and evidence-based practice, while remaining flexible and responsive to your unique needs and pace.
Therapy is a space to explore the patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety, mood challenges, relationship dynamics, and emotional overwhelm. Some sessions may focus on emotional insight and reflection; others on practical tools or support in navigating change. All are grounded in a respectful, supportive therapeutic alliance.
About Me
Before qualifying as a clinical psychologist, I practiced as an attorney at Webber Wentzel Attorneys and Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. During my time in law, I found myself increasingly fascinated by the psychological dynamics that shape both personal and professional lives. This growing interest led me to study psychology part-time at the University of the Witwatersrand while continuing my legal career.
As I explored psychology further, it became clear that my true passion lay in understanding human behaviour and supporting mental health. I ultimately made the decision to leave the legal profession and pursue psychology full-time, completing my Honours and Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand.
